Fieldmark Privacy Policy
Effective August 10, 2026
Fieldmark identifies birds from photos you choose. It is built to collect as
little as possible: no account, no sign-up, no advertising, and no analytics
trackers.
What we process
- Photos you submit. When you choose a photo, a downscaled copy is sent
to our server and to our AI provider to produce the identification, processed
in memory, and returned. We do not store your photos.
- Photo location. If the photo you choose contains location metadata,
the app sends coordinates rounded to roughly 1 km to improve accuracy. The
app never accesses your device's live location.
- Location you type. If you optionally describe where you saw a bird
(for example a park name), that text is used for the identification and not
stored.
- Device timezone. Used as a coarse regional hint when a photo has no
location.
- An anonymous device identifier. A random ID generated on first
launch, used only to enforce daily usage limits and recognize an active
subscription. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account.
What stays on your device
Your life list (saved sightings and their photos) and the diagnostics log are
stored only on your device. They never leave it unless you export or share them
yourself.
What we store on our servers
Only two things, keyed to the anonymous ID: daily usage counters (deleted
automatically within 48 hours) and, if you subscribe, your subscription status.
Nothing else.
Services we rely on
- Cloudflare hosts our server infrastructure.
- OpenRouter / Google Gemini receive the downscaled photo to perform
the identification, subject to their own privacy terms.
- Google Play and RevenueCat process subscription purchases. We never
see your payment details.
- iNaturalist and Wikipedia host the reference photos of species shown
in results; your device fetches those images directly from them.
Deleting your data
Settings → "Delete account & data" erases your life list on the device
and all server-side data for your anonymous ID. You can also email us at the
address below. Active subscriptions are cancelled separately in Google Play.
Children
Fieldmark is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly
collect personal information from them.
